Mercy Joplin Replacement Hospital
On May 22, 2011, St. John’s Hospital in Joplin, MO, took a direct hit from an EF5 tornado with 200 mph winds. In order to restore much-needed health care services to the residents of Joplin, the challenge was to build an 870,000 SF replacement hospital as quickly as possible.
Northstar served as the Program Manager/Owners representative on the new, $460 Million, full-service hospital with integrated clinic, and stand-alone central energy plant, totaling 880,000 SF, on a 100-acre site, 211 inpatient beds (plus 48-bed shell floor) and 12 operating rooms (plus 2 shelled). Other services included: imaging, endoscopy, cath/EP labs, breast cancer, nuclear medicine, oncology and specialty clinics. Patient-focused care delivery system involved de-centralized nursing model with associated hospital-based and outpatient services.
